Dr. Bogdan Cherascu has joined the Northern Maine Medical Center medical staff in Madawaska.

Cherascu, a diplomate of the National Board of Internal Medicine, completed his fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. In 2000, Cherascu completed his residency in internal medicine at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y.

In addition to his internal medicine practice, Cherascu will treat patients with arthritis, certain autoimmune diseases, musculoskeletal pain and osteoporosis.

Dori Smith, a senior at Presque Isle High School, has been selected as a delegate for the 2003 American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation program July 19-26 in Washington, D.C.

Smith is one of 96 female high school students in the nation who will attend the 57th session of the program. Delegates are chosen for their enthusiasm for learning and leadership potential in association with the Girls State program in Maine, which introduces them to the structure and functions of the federal government.
