Calais earns split with Lincoln

CALAIS – Zack Luddington’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning drove in the go-ahead run as Calais edged Lincoln 9-7 to earn a split of their American Legion Zone 1 doubleheader Monday. Scott Flannery and Matt Malone each hit home runs in the third inning of the opener to propel Lincoln to a 10-9 win.

Ryan Bouchard earned the pitching win in the first game, with relief help from Craig Cullen.

Tyler Gardiner hit two singles and a double for Lincoln, while Flannery and Malone finished with two hits each.

James MacDonald had three singles and three RBIs for Calais, while Josh Francis doubled and singled and Joe Footer hit a solo home run.

In the second game, Lincoln scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-6 lead before Luddington’s hit in the bottom of the inning gave Calais an 8-7 edge.

Steve Colbeth doubled and scored on Josh Francis’ single to give Calais an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Ryan McLay pitched a complete-game seven-hitter to earn the win.

Colbeth hit two doubles and two singles for Calais, while Ben Maloney doubled and singled.

Matt Malone doubled twice and Cullen singled twice for Lincoln.
