BANGOR – Pre-K Picassos, an art show highlighting the works of some of the region’s youngest artists, had its premiere July 14 at the Maine Discovery Museum. The featured artists are children enrolled in Penquis CAP child development programs in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. Penquis CAP child development programs serve children 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Wendy Libby of Brewer, a 25-year veteran art teacher at Fruit Street School, author of three books, artist-in-residence throughout Maine and a Bill Bonyun Award recipient, spoke about the importance and prevalence of art in life.

Many of the young artists were present at the show, proudly identifying and describing their paintings.

The public may view the paintings at the Maine Discovery Museum snack room through July 19, and at the Bangor Mall from July 20-26. There will be a silent auction sheet for each painting, located at the customer service desk.

The paintings not sold during the displays will be for sale at Bangor’s Sidewalk Art Festival on Aug. 2. The sale of the paintings will benefit Penquis CAP child development programs and provide funding for an annual art show.

Pre-K Picassos is funded by the Maine Community Foundation, King and Jean Cummings Charitable Trust Fund. To learn more, visit www.mainecf.org or call toll-free (877) 700-6800.
