BRUNSWICK – An unidentified male body was discovered early Thursday by a woman walking her dog in a wooded area, police said.

State police said paperwork was found with the man that provided a partial identification. The paperwork belongs to a local man who has not been seen in more than a week, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The body, which was lying face down, had significant decomposition. There was nothing at the scene near Jordan Acres Elementary School to indicate his death was suspicious, authorities said.

The body was taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for an autopsy. Investigators from the Maine State Police were called in to assist.
