Orono-Veazie gains berth in WS District 3 Senior League baseball title decided; Coastal in state final

BANGOR – Andrew Otis doubled, singled three times and drove in three runs to lift the Orono-Veazie all-star baseball team for ages 15-16 to an 8-4 win over Bangor Monday at Mansfield Stadium for the District 3 championship and a berth in the Senior Little League World Series.

Kevin McAvoy hit a home run for Orono-Veazie. Brain Roach had a RBI triple and George Keefe ripped a pair of singles.

Brian Hackett hit two singles with two RBIs for Bangor as Eric Anderson and Paul Russell each doubled.

Baseball, 15-16

Coastal heads to state final

At Biddeford, District 1 champion Coastal scored eight runs in the first inning and rolled to a 15-2 victory over Saco-Maremount of District 4 in the state Senior League tournament.

Coastal, now 2-1, will face undefeated District 5 champion Auburn Suburban Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the championship game.

On Sunday, Auburn Suburban beat Coastal 4-2 in a winner’s bracket game. Coastal beat Saco-Maremount 5-4 Saturday.

In Monday’s game, every Coastal starter scored at least once with Harrison Hines tallying three runs. Bryant Ciomei singled twice and drove in three runs. Collin Henry and Adam Cousins added two singles apiece and Will Rosenthal pitched a four-hitter.

In Sunday’s game, David Lutz led Auburn with three singles and Justin Ciszewski added a double and two RBIs. Blake Wessel paced Coastal with two singles.

In Saturday’s game, Josh Eaton’s infield single in the bottom of the 10th inning plated Cousins and boosted Coastal.

Coastal’s Dan Hilts allowed four runs in the first two innings, and then shut down Saco for good. He gave up 10 hits, struck out 10 and walked one. Wessel hit two doubles and a single. Henry doubled and singled.

David Gray led Saco-Maremount with a three-run homer and a double.

District 3 baseball, 13-14

Bangor 9, Hampden 0

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Jacob Silver hit three singles and added two RBIs to lead Bangor to the Junior League title.

Bangor’s Alex Gallant pitched a complete-game four-hitter with five strikeouts. Kyle Vandestine had three singles with one RBI and Shane Walton tripled and singled with a RBI. Ian Edwards hit a double and a single with a RBI and Neal Russell added a pair of singles with a RBI.

Joel Neill hit two singles for Hampden.

Waldo 5, Rockland 4

At Frankfort, Kile Lemieux raced home from third on a wild pitch to score the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Lemieux had reached second on an error and stole third to set up the winning run.

The two teams meet again today at 5:30 p.m. in Rockland to decide the District 2 champ.

Shawn Smith paced Waldo with a single, double and RBI and Matt Bagley added two singles.

Nick Little slammed a two-run triple for Rockland and Seth Jordan singled twice and drove in a run.

At Brewer, Amy Hackett singled three times and drove in two runs as Bangor picked up the Junior League crown.

Bangor’s Emily Heath chipped in with two singles and two RBIs. Courtney Stevenson singled twice and knocked in a run, and Carrie Lucy singled and had two RBIs.

Lisa Johnson led Hampden with three singles and two RBIs. Amanda Palmer hit two tripled and drove in a run, while Ashley Gott singled twice and added an RBI.
