ACADIA NATIONAL PARK – Park rangers rescued a 12-year-old boy Monday after he fell about 10 feet off rocks along Ocean Drive.

The boy, who came to the park with the Wayne-based Camp Androscoggin, injured his arm and bloodied his lip when he fell while “scrambling around” on some rocks near Thunder Hole, according to Ranger Richard Rechholtz.

Eight rangers retrieved Max Davis, applying a splint to his arm and immobilizing his back as a precautionary measure, Rechholtz said, before carrying him out on a litter.

Rangers did not know where the child lives.

The boy fell at about 3:10 p.m. and was en route to Mount Desert Island Hospital by ambulance about 45 minutes later, Rechholtz said.

He was still being treated in the emergency room late in the afternoon, according to a nursing supervisor.

Two other Camp Androscoggin youngsters were injured while biking on park carriage roads, but their injuries did not appear serious, Rechholtz said.
