WALDOBORO – Voters will gather tonight at Miller School for a special town meeting to decide whether to approve funding for a new town garage.

The single warrant article asks residents to appropriate and authorize the majority of municipal officers to borrow up to $850,000 through bonds or notes to finance the design and construction of a new public works garage. The building would be built at 1400 Wagner Bridge Road near the existing town garage.

The meeting begins at 7 tonight at the school.

In approving the warrant item, voters would be allowing the transfer of $144,000 from the public works building reserve account to go toward the project, which is expected to reduce the amount to be borrowed, Town Manager Lee Smith said Monday.

The proposed garage would measure 215 feet by 90 feet, he said, noting the existing building will be torn down.
