BOWIE, Md. – Ruben Rivera homered twice and had three RBIs to lead the Bowie Bay Sox to a 5-3 win over the Portland Sea Dogs Tuesday night.

With the Bay Sox ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Rivera connected for a two-run shot against Sea Dogs starter Josh Stevens, making it 4-0.

Rivera later connected for a solo shot to left in the fourth.

Stevens (9-5) allowed seven hits and five runs in seven innings to take the loss. He also struck out five.

Bowie (49-52) starter Dave Borkowski surrendered nine hits and three runs in five innings of work. Borkowski (3-4) walked two and struck out two on his way to earning the victory.

Portland (52-45) answered the Bay Sox four-run first with two runs in the second and one in the third, to cut their deficit to 4-3.

After Rivera’s homer made it 5-3 in the fourth, the Sea Dogs stranded two runners in the sixth and seventh innings and never seriously threatened after that.

Bay Sox reliever John Parrish allowed one hit in two innings while Tim Corcoran worked a hitless ninth to notch his first save on the year.
