Curran Homestead events

ORRINGTON – The Curran Homestead will offer an “Olde-Fashioned Country Fair Day” on Saturday, July 26; and Maine’s Open Farm Day on Sunday, July 27, on Fields Pond Road. Tickets are $1 for children, $2 for adults. The schedule includes:

Saturday, July 26:

10 a.m. Orrington Olde Home Week Parade, Center Drive School.

11:30 a.m. Old-fashioned children’s games, outside gift shop at homestead; take a ride in a Model-T with Jim Leighton and the Geezers Wheezers.

11:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Take a homestead tour, beginning at gift shop.

Noon to 2 p.m. Barbecue, chicken, burgers, hot dogs, chef Paula Shumaker. $5, $2.50 under 12. Eat under the tent with music of Jerry Hughes and the Late Edition.

Noon to 2 p.m. Kayaking education and demonstration, Brad Ryder, Epic Sports.

1 p.m. Horse and carriage rides, caning demonstration by Dennis King.

2 p.m. Horseshoe pitching contests.

2:30 p.m. Storytelling with Carroll Adams.

3 p.m. Maine’s funniest magician, Danny Baker.

4 p.m. Homemade pie contest awards; dress up for photo in old-fashioned costumes; horse and carriage rides; silent and live auctions with Joe Brooks; children’s games.

5 to 7 p.m. Baked bean supper.

7 to 9 p.m. Barn dance for all ages with contra dance music by Marsh Island Band.

Sunday, July 27

10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Homestead tour.

10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Old-fashioned games for children.

10:30 a.m. to noon. Maine’s wild blueberry history, Gail VanWart, Peaked Mountain Farm.

11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Horse and carriage rides.

11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dress up for photo in old-fashioned costumes.

11:30 a.m. Just Goats! A milking demonstration, Susan Parker, Skyview Farms.

11:45 a.m. Storytelling with Carroll Adams.

11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Barbecue, chicken, burgers, hotdogs, $5, $2.50 children. Eat under tent with music of Spring Creek.

1 p.m. Mr. Magic, Ray Campbell.

3 p.m. Farm closes.

Northern Lights play

BANGOR – Northern Lights Repertory Theatre will present “Why We Have a Body” by Claire Chafee at 8 p.m. Friday, July 25, and 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 120 Park St., Bangor.

The women in “Why We Have a Body” are searchers by trade. There is an Archeologist, paleontologist and private investigator, who spend their time ferreting out clues and digging up the past. Risk and uncertainty are their daily lot and they are perpetually out on a limb.

“Why We Have a Body” is directed by Marcia Douglas, head of the University of Maine’s theater department. Elaine Daugherty, Margo Lukens, Julie Arnold Lisnet and Audrey Minutolo comprise the cast. Kent McKusick, founding artistic director of Northern Lights theater, is the play’s producer.
