A Bangor man was arrested at midnight Tuesday after driving around Bangor with his lights out.

Bangor police Officers James Hassard and David Bushey stopped a white Pontiac LeMans on Fourth Street after it drove by with its headlights out, Hassard’s report said.

The officers could smell alcohol as they approached the car, and Hassard said he could see a partially consumed 40 ounce bottle of beer behind the passenger’s seat, along with an upturned Bud Light can.

While 19-year-old driver Kevin Coleman admitted to drinking “one 40,” Hassard said, he denied the beer in the back was his; his passenger also disowned the drinks. Hassard said that while taking the beer out of the back of the car, he found a duffel bag full of other alcoholic drinks.

The report said Coleman almost fell over as he exited his car for sobriety tests. He did not perform well on the tests and was arrested.

At Penobscot County Jail, Coleman was summoned for operating under the influence and illegal transportation of liquor by a minor.

The owner of Pine Haven Trailer Park in Old Town told police Wednesday that somebody broke into a storage trailer and took a number of tools.

A Hampden woman told police her gas grill was taken from her back porch on Main Road North sometime Tuesday night. The grill is valued at $240.
