Matthew Miller’s column related a story that needs telling until the reckless handling of the U.S. Treasury that is destroying our economy is stopped (BDN, July 18).
The “Bush Economic Plan” does exactly what those wealthy people who raised $100 million and selected him for their candidate planned. It is exactly what the administrations of Harding, Coolidge and Hoover pulled off for their wealthy friends, which led to the Great Depression. It is exactly what the Reagan and first Bush administrations did in their 12 years that built up a yearly federal deficit of $290 billion.
Their aim now is to eliminate, through privatization, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, public schools as we know them, highway and bridge maintenance and construction, police, defense, fire departments, and so forth. This is a dangerous agenda – they are able to pull it off because the government is turning into an oligarchy.
