BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Bangor’s Taylor Lauritsen doubled in two runs in the third inning to lead the Bangor girls to a 4-1 victory over Plainfield, Ind., Wednesday in the Amateur Softball Association’s 14-and-under national tournament.
Bangor went 1-1 in pool play and now advances to the double-elimination round of the 33-team tournament. Pool play records don’t count for the doube-elimination round.
Bangor will face Evansville, Ind., at 10:30 a.m. today. If Bangor loses, the next game will be at 7 p.m. If Bangor wins the first game, its next game will be Friday morning.
Stacey Gomm was the winning pitcher for Bangor, striking out six and walking one. Lauritsen added a single and had three RBIs, Erin Gray, had a pair of singles, and Jessie Strout had an RBI single.
Whitney Westhead led Plainfield with a triple.

At Knox, Jack Wyman pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts to earn the win for Falmouth and help the all-stars advance to today’s championship round against Augusta West at 2:30 p.m.
Falmouth must defeat unbeaten Augusta West twice to claim the state title. The if-necessary game would follow at 5:30 p.m.
Collin Burnett slammed a three-run homer for the winners and Wyman added an RBI single.
Teel Ilovnen singled for Rockland’s lone hit.
