QUEBEC CITY – Righthander Lance Franks shut down the Bangor Lumberjacks for 7 1/3 innings to lead the Quebec Capitales to a 4-0 victory in Northeast League action Wednesday night.
Franks allowed only two hits and three walks and struck out six to earn his fourth victory.
Righty Brandon Bowe turned in a solid performance for the Lumberjacks and held Quebec hitless for six innings until Carlos Rodriguez led off the seventh with a home run.
Rodriguez came back with a three-run home run in the next inning to put the game out of reach.
The struggling Lumberjacks managed only three hits, singles by Todd Brock, Nick Saunders and Brad Hargreaves.
Portland 11, Trenton 2
PORTLAND – Trace Coquillette accounted for four RBIs with a pair of two-run homers as the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Trenton Thunder 11-2 Wednesday in the Eastern League.
Portland’s Sean McGowan went 4-for-5 with another two-run homer, while starting pitcher Tim Kester threw five scoreless innings.
The Sea Dogs (59-48) jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first, and Coquillette’s first two-run homer made it 7-0 in the fifth. McGowan’s two-run sent Portland ahead 9-1 in the sixth and Coquillette’s second homer made it 11-1 in the eighth.
Brian Myrow had an RBI double in the sixth and Andy Cannizaro had a based-loaded single in the ninth for Trenton (56-54)
Kester (7-7) struck out four and walked one over five scoreless innings. Trenton starter Chien-ming Wang (6-4) took the loss, surrendering seven earned runs over 4 2/3 innings.
