Exchange program
BANGOR – Face The World Foundation, a nonprofit organization that places foreign exchange students with host families, has a new community representative. Bill MacDonald graduated from Bangor Christian Schools in 1988 and from Covenant College in Georgia in 1993. He is the headmaster at Penobscot Christian School.

Dalhousie University
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – Sara Pullen was named to the dean’s list at Dalhousie University for the spring semester. She will spend her upcoming junior year studying marine biology at Hull University, Scarborough, England. She is the daughter of Mike and Ann Pullen of Hampden.
Maine Maritime Academy
CASTINE – Area students who graduated May 10 from Maine Maritime Academy are:
. Gregory Pooler of Brewer, a Brewer High School graduate, who received a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering operations.
. Kyle Meehan of Brewer, a Brewer High School graduate, who received a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering operations.
. Adam Crossman of Glenburn, a John Bapst Memorial High School graduate, who received a bachelor’s degree in international business and logistics.
. Amber Hichborn of Carmel, a Hermon High School graduate, who received a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, in international business and logistics. She also received the Joseph Sewall Award for receiving the highest grade point average in her major and was named to the dean’s list at Maine Maritime Academy.

EMCC
BANGOR – Eastern Maine Community College has announced that evening and Outreach Center classes are scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 31.
Evening, off-campus and non-credit courses will be offered this fall in East Millinocket, Ellsworth, Dover-Foxcroft and Belfast.
EMCC offers a variety of one- and two-year programs ranging from machine tool to early childhood education and business management. Classes include college composition, college algebra, anatomy and physiology, accounting and child and adolescent development.
Classes also are held at the EMCC campus off Hogan Road in Bangor. For registration, scheduling or information, call the Enrollment Center at 974-4621.
Northeastern University
BOSTON – Those receiving degrees during June 14 ceremonies at Northeastern University include:
. Jerusha Reynolds of Brewer, earning a master’s degree in health science.

Teacher scholarships
AUGUSTA – The Maine Education Leadership Consortium has available scholarships of $2,300 to support selected Maine public school teachers wishing to participate in the National Board Certification process during the coming year. The opportunity is part of a national effort to reach goals established by the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future.
This is the sixth year the consortium has offered scholarships to Maine teachers. Funds will be available through consortium member organizations and state appropriations, and are matched by subsidy from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
The certification process is for teachers with three or more years of experience and is voluntary. National Board Certification is one of the highest honors in the teaching profession and is a symbol of commitment to accomplished teaching. The United States has 24,000 certified teachers and Maine has 37 certified teachers.
Certified teachers are called on to advise, assist and mentor prospective, new and experienced teachers, and to inform education policy makers.
Teachers who wish to learn more about the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and the certification process should visit www.nbpts.org. Those wishing to apply should visit www.umaine.edu/mlc/resources.htm to download application information and materials. The application package must be returned by 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15.
