Traffic warning

Maine Turnpike officials have issued a warning to motorists to expect unusually heavy traffic between today and Sunday because of the Phish concert in Limestone and the Lobster Festival in Rockland. The first weekend of August normally is one of the busiest of the year on Interstate 95, and the added attractions could result in significant delays.

Motorists are urged to plan their travel times carefully. Heaviest traffic is expected northbound from 3 to 7 p.m. today.

Saturday traffic is expected to be heavy in both directions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday traffic southbound will be heaviest from 2 to 7 p.m., according to turnpike officials.

All construction on the turnpike has been suspended for the weekend, and all lanes will be open.

Maine State Police will have extra patrol personnel on duty. The Turnpike Authority will provide 24-hour courtesy patrols to help motorists experiencing vehicle problems.
