OLD TOWN – Author and gardener Eliot Coleman has been selected as keynote speaker for the second annual Garden Gathering from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Rogers Farm on Route 16 in Old Town.
Coleman will speak at 11 a.m. on “The Twelve Month Harvest.”
Coleman is the author of several books on organic gardening, including “The Four Season Harvest” and “The New Organic Gardener.” He also runs commercial market gardens in Harborside.
Subjects covered by other speakers at the event will include weed identification and control, irrigation, seed saving and small fruit production.
The gathering also will include walking tours of the Master Garden Demonstration gardens and research plots at Rogers Farm.
The programs will be aimed at adult gardeners, but a full program of activities also is planned for children.
Garden Gathering 2003 is sponsored jointly by the University of Maine, Penobscot County Master Gardeners, University of Maine Cooperative Extensions and Rogers Farm.
