Bucksport splits in Junior tourney

HOCKOCKSON PARK, N.J. – Chris Maguire pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out 12 batters and allowing only four hits and one walk, to lead Bucksport, Maine’s representative junior league nationals, to a 9-0 win over Derry, N.H., Saturday, in Junior League baseball play.

Patrick Dedmon led the Maine offense with two singles and two RBIs while Cam Wadleigh hit a two-run single and Todd Freeman added an RBI single for the 13- and 14-year-olds. Matt Jackson chipped in with a double and two runs.

Ryan Winney and Mark Cyneo each hit two singles for Derry.

At Hockockson Park, N.J., Bill Ford hit a single and a double for two RBIs to help lead Mansfield, Mass., past Bucksport on Sunday.

John Romero chipped in with a single and a double.

Alex Yates and Pat Dedmon each had a double, a single, and an RBI to pace Bucksport, while Cam Wadleigh helped out with an RBI single.

Bangor wins one of three

At Indianapolis, Friday Bangor faced three opponents and was eliminated after falling to Rehoboth, Mass., 6-5 in extra innings. The first game was an 8-0 loss to Alabama, while Bangor won the second matchup 6-0 over Logansport, Ind.

Bangor finished 13th in a field of 33 at the ASA 14-under national tournament.

In the first game, Erin Gray had the lone hit for Bangor with a single.

In the second game, Amy Hackett hit three singles and a double to help lead Bangor to the win, while Emily Heath added a double and a single for two RBIs. Carrie Lucy contributed with two singles and two RBIs, and Katy McDonald had an RBI double.

In the third game, Katy MacDonald and Amy Hackett had two singles, a double, and two RBIs apiece for Bangor, Erin Gray added an RBI single, and Ilyse Angst hit two singles.
