BANGOR – Maine’s Purple Heart Monument will be placed near the Maine State WWII Veterans Memorial at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Cole Land Transportation Museum.

Gov. John Baldacci will dedicate the monument, and speakers at the dedication will include Galen Cole, Purple Heart recipient and founder of the Cole Land Transportation Museum.

Every state in the next year will dedicate a polished granite monument to commemorate those who have been wounded in action and received a Purple Heart from the American Revolutionary War to the present.
