ACADIA NATIONAL PARK – Author Tom Wessels will present several public slide shows and lead a field workshop titled “Reading Acadia’s Landscape” on Aug. 11 and 12.
Wessels is professor of ecology in the department of environmental studies at Antioch New England Graduate School in Keene, N.H. There he heads the Robert and Patricia Switzer Foundation, which fosters environmental leadership through graduate fellowships and organizational grants. He is the author of two natural history books: “Reading the Forested Landscape: A Natural History of New England” and “The Granite Landscape: A Natural History of America’s Mountain Domes from Acadia to Yosemite.”
Wessels will present his “Reading the Forested Landscape” slide show from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at park headquarters on Eagle Lake Road in Bar Harbor.
After this program, Wessels will lead a field trip that will include exploring the natural history of Acadia’s mountains and forests. The number of participants for the field trip is limited.
Wessels will present his Granite Landscape slide show at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, in Gates Auditorium at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor.
