BANGOR – The Motel 6 in Bangor is under new ownership and plans are in the works to renovate the 59-room motel located on Hammond Street.

Kushi Realty Group of Andover, Mass., last week purchased the motel from Accor North America of Dallas, one of the nation’s largest owners and operators of economy lodging, including Motel 6 and the Red Roof Inns.

Kushi Realty plans to begin internal renovations of the rooms within the year, said Bimal Patel, the motel’s new manger. There are no plans to build an addition or increase the number of rooms.

“We want to give more comfort level to the customer,” Patel said Tuesday.

The group has not determined how much the project will cost, Patel said. It also does not expect to have to close the motel during the construction.

The Motel 6 chain has more than 800 locations in the United States and Canada.
