Pediatric dentist

Dr. Jonathan Shenkin, a pediatric dentistry specialist, has moved to the Bangor area and is accepting patients at Penobscot Children’s Dentistry Associates. He has taken over the practice of Dr. Roger Nightingale, who has retired.

Shenkin is one of the region’s few dentists trained specifically for pediatric care. His practice will include, when necessary, treating children under general anesthesia at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Shenkin completed a residency in pediatric dentistry at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in Iowa City. He received a dental degree at Columbia University and earned a master’s degree in public health at Johns Hopkins University. He completed a dental public health fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and did a general practice residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Northport, N.Y.

He practiced general dentistry in Connecticut. Shenkin has received awards for his research and publications from the American Society of Dentistry for Children, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Association of Public Health Dentistry.

This fall, Shenkin will begin a faculty appointment as assistant professor of health policy, health services research and pediatric dentistry at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine.

Shenkin’s practice is at 792 Stillwater Ave. To obtain information or to make an appointment, call 947-6733.
