FRYEBURG – A Massachusetts man was presumed drowned Wednesday after he went into the Saco River to assist another person and never made it back to shore, officials said.
The 41-year-old man from Amesbury, Mass., went into the river at about 2 p.m. at a place known as Walker’s Falls near the Fryeburg-Denmark town line. Officials were not releasing his name.
Mark Latti, spokesman for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, said four Warden Service divers were summoned to the site to search for the body.
