CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Bob Darling, the head pro at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Auburn, shot an even-par 72 Thursday to win his second straight Maine Chapter New England PGA State of Maine Championship at Sugarloaf Golf Course.

Darling finished the two-day tournament with a 5-under-par 139. He shot a 67 in the first round Wednesday.

Darling hit all but one fairway and hit 14 greens in regulation in Thursday’s round. On Wednesday Darling started off with nine straight pars, then recorded six birdies and one bogey on the back nine.

Mike Baker, the assistant pro at Kebo Valley in Bar Harbor, was second with a 144. Baker shot a 69 Thursday.

Freeport’s Jim Nickerson was third with a 146. Mark Plummer of Manchester took low amateur honors with a two-day total of 148.
