Glenburn council approves forestry plan

GLENBURN – The land around Lakeside Landing soon will be spruced up now that the Town Council has approved a forestry plan for the property.

“We have a number of trees that have reached maturity. You have trees falling down and we have the opportunity for mishaps,” Town Manager Carl Betterley said. “One of the improvements will be the walking trail. Once we have a management plan we can develop the trail and it will benefit the community.”

The town hired forester Edwin Rosso, who is a former councilor and resident, to do the job for $480. Part of Rosso’s job will be to identify trees for removal. Some of these trees could be sold, said Betterley.

“We should have some revenues but they will be marginal,” he said.

The sale of the trees will be used to offset the cost of some of the improvements, said Betterley.

The town has property at Lakeside Landing, where the demo site and closed landfill are located, and on Ohio Street.

At the meeting, the council also:

. Accepted an irrevocable letter of credit for the reconstruction of Cedar Breeze South, a road, for $116,265.

. Selected Judd Esty-Kendall as the alternative member of the Glenburn planning board.

. Tabled the issue of charging residents for use of the fax machine at the town office.
