Sea Dogs lose ninth straight

PORTLAND – Marvin Seales’ sacrifice fly drove in Justin Huber with the winning run in the top of the 11th inning as the Binghamton Mets handed the Portland Sea Dogs their ninth straight loss 9-6 Thursday in the Eastern League.

Mike Jacobs and Frank Corr drove in two runs each for Binghamton, while Justin Sherrod and Greg Catalanotte homered for Portland (59-57).

After Jacobs’ two-run single gave the Mets (56-63) a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Sherrod’s solo homer and Catalanotte’s two-run blast sent Portland ahead 3-2 in the second. Sherrod’s double was the key hit as the Sea Dogs made it 4-2 in the fifth.

Back-to-back doubles by Victor Diaz and Corr sparked a three-run rally as Binghamton went ahead 5-4 in the top of the seventh, but the Sea Dogs regained the lead 6-5 in the bottom of the inning when Seale dropped a fly ball in centerfield and allowed two Portland runners to score.

Binghamton evened it at six in the eighth when Diaz singled home Jacobs with the tying run.

After Huber and Diaz led off the 11th with singles, Corr advanced both with a sacrifice bunt and Seale hit the game-winner when he lofted a fly ball to deep centerfield.

The Mets added two more on Chris Basak’s bunt single and a fielding error.
