AUGUSTA – In recognition of National Marina Day, Gov. John E. Baldacci has proclaimed Saturday, Aug. 9, as Marina Day in Maine.

The governor’s proclamation adds Maine to a growing list of states that are recognizing the economic, environmental and social contributions of recreational boating facilities to their communities. National Marina Day is an annual celebration developed by the Marina Operators Association of America. Aug. 9 marks the second annual event.

The association represents more than 200 boating-related businesses in the state. It provides educational and networking opportunities for its members and advocates on their behalf in the legislature and with regulatory agencies at the state and federal levels.
