Augusta West advances to regional LL title game

BRISTOL, Conn. – The Augusta West Little League 11-12 All-Stars will play Saugus, Mass., at 8 p.m. today for the right to advance to the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

The game will be televised on ESPN2.

Augusta West advanced to the New England Regional championship game with a 2-1 victory over Lincoln, R.I., on Saturday. In that game, Aaron Allen pitched a complete-game six-hitter and his teammates scored single runs in the second and third innings as Augusta West avenged a 16-9 loss to the Rhode Island champions during pool play Thursday.

The Maine champions are now 3-2 overall in the New England tourney.

Saugus, Mass., advanced to Monday’s championship game with a 10-0 victory over North Stamford, Conn., on Saturday.

Saugus is now 5-0 overall in the tournament, and has outscored its opposition by a combined 50-3, including four shutout victories. Augusta West dropped an 11-0 decision to Saugus in its tournament opener on Aug. 4.

The Little League World Series runs Aug. 15-24 at Williamsport, Pa.

The New England champion will open Little League World Series play at 3 p.m. Friday, against Great Lakes Regional champion Tallmadge, Ohio.
