Police shut down ‘gang war’ fight 2 men charged with disorderly conduct

Two men were arrested early Saturday morning in Bangor after attempting to instigate “what was going to be a gang-war style fight,” according to police reports.

Michael Cote, 40, of Glenburn was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction of government administration and criminal trespass. Mitchell Bellefleur, 39, of Orono was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct.

Sgt. Thomas Regan was following up on a tip and watching the Bounty Tavern on Main Street for signs of a fight involving knives. He dispersed a crowd congregating around a young man from Job Corps and Bellefleur, who was displaying a knife. Regan searched the Job Corps youth but found no weapons. Many in the crowd were wearing matching T-shirts, according to Regan’s report.

“This fight would have involved 20 to 30 kids in Cote T-shirts versus five to seven Job Corps kids,” according to Regan’s report. “This was potentially a hate-crime situation,” he added.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. Regan and another officer dispersed the crowd again at the Greyhound bus station on Main Street. Cote and Bellefleur remained, arguing with the officers, who searched Bellefleur, uncovering a small, concealed hunting knife. Cote continued to argue and was also arrested.

Two Hermon juveniles, ages 16 and 17, were arrested and charged with burglary and theft early Sunday morning after police responded to an alarm at Top Shelf Coins & Comics & Cards & Collectibles at 25 Central St. in Bangor.

Officer Jim Dearing arrived at the store and found the front door open and the back alley window, approximately 12 feet above ground level, broken with a large picnic table propped against the wall below it.

Apparently the burglars had entered through the window, set off a motion alarm, grabbed some trading cards and left through the front door, Dearing’s report said.

While Dearing was outside the store, he saw the two teenage boys begin to behave suspiciously. When other officers approached, the boys ran, throwing “Magic: the Gathering” trading cards of the type sold at the store and a pair of gloves into a bush and onto the ground. Police chased and apprehended them. Two screwdrivers and more game cards were found in one boy’s possession.

James Cinnani, 37, of Bangor was arrested at 3:25 a.m. Sunday morning at his home on Essex Street and charged with domestic assault.

Officer Russell Twadell III and Officer Robert Angelo responded to a call and heard “a woman screaming ‘help me’ repeatedly in blood curdling tones,” according to Twadell’s report. They entered the unlocked apartment and found Cinnani on top of a woman, beating her in the head and back. Cinnani told police the woman had allegedly taken his gold. The woman asked police not to arrest him.

She had blood on her pants and a cut on her nose, but refused medical treatment and refused to make a statement to police. She did say Cinnani had beaten her many times over the last three years, according to the report.

Hampden police responded to calls reporting a partially-dressed woman by the side of Route 9 Saturday night. Officer Ruth Duquette arrived to find that a stripper and the woman who collected money for the strip show had been pushed out of a car by two other strippers after leaving a bachelor party, Duquette said.

The stripper and the money collector had been fighting and both claimed they had been bitten by the other. Although no charges were filed at the time, the women were talking about taking each other to court.
