Rollover on Thomaston road leaves 2 teenagers injured

THOMASTON – Two teenagers were injured Friday night in a rollover accident on Dexter Street after a deer ran in front of their vehicle.

Olivia Mitchell, 18, of Rockport and a 16-year-old male were taken by Thomaston Ambulance to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, according to Thomaston Police Department Officer Phillip Boyd on Saturday. Mitchell was treated and released, a nursing supervisor said Sunday. Police would not identify the juvenile.

According to Boyd, a deer ran in front of the 2003 Chevy Trail Blazer, which Mitchell was driving, at about 9:17 p.m. The vehicle swerved onto a soft shoulder and when Mitchell overcorrected her steering, she lost control and the vehicle rolled over.

Both teens, who were wearing seat belts, suffered minor injuries, the officer said, noting both air bags opened. There were no charges stemming from the accident.

Damage to the Chevy was estimated at $12,000, but due to structural damage, it was likely a total loss, Boyd said.
