ELMIRA, N.Y. – Juan LeBron’s three-run home run with one out in the fourth gave the Bangor Lumberjacks a three-run lead early, but it was a four-run ninth that provided the final margin as the ‘Jacks came away with an 8-4 Northeast League victory over Elmira Tuesday night.
The win was the fourth in the last five games for the Lumberjacks, who are now 13-15 and four games behind north division leader Quebec.
Three straight errors in the ninth by Elmira scored LeBron with the go-ahead run. After Sandy Martinez stole second, Edwin Thompson hit a two-run double. Another error, a hit, a strikeout, and a walk later, the Lumberjacks had four runs on two hits and four errors.
Of Bangor’s eight runs, only three were earned.
Orlando Woodards (2-0) came on with one out in the eighth and allowed one hit in an inning and two-thirds to notch the win. Starter John Vigue went seven innings, giving up nien hits and four earned runs.
Bangor had just five hits in the game and no hitter had more than one.
