A Stetson man was arrested on domestic assault charges Monday afternoon in Levant. Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy James Kennedy said a woman called the sheriff’s department after fleeing her East Newport Road home where she said her husband, John Carter, grabbed and choked her.

A Stetson man was arrested on domestic assault charges Monday afternoon in Levant.

Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy James Kennedy said a woman called the sheriff’s department after fleeing her East Newport Road home where she said her husband, John Carter, grabbed and choked her.

Kennedy said he took the woman’s statement, but when he went to the house Carter was not home.

Kennedy said he found Carter later, walking on Route 222 in Levant. He arrested Carter on charges of assault and violation of probation.

A Hampden business reportedly lost $700 in power tools over the weekend.

Hampden police reported that somebody broke into Sterns Lumber Co. on Main Road North through a screen window that was cut open and took power tools. The break-in reportedly took place between 4 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Monday. There are no leads at this time.

A Bangor man reportedly drove through Brewer with a loud muffler and a suspended license Monday evening.

Brewer police Officer John Knapp reported that at about 5:45 p.m. on Wilson Street he pulled over Michael Moody, 24, of Bangor because he had a loud exhaust system.

Moody identified himself verbally, claiming he didn’t have his license in his possession, Knapp said. Dispatch informed Knapp that Moody’s license was suspended in Maine and that he was a habitual offender.

Knapp arrested Moody for operation after suspension as a habitual offender.
