PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Berkshire Black Bears appear to be catching onto this shutout thing. They followed up their pitching staff’s first of the season Thursday with another against Bangor on Friday night.

Rick Guttormson (6-8) tossed a three-hitter while notching seven strikeouts and walking just two batters as Berskshire topped the Bangor Lumberjacks 6-0 at Wahconah Park in Northeast League action.

Bears center fielder Shane Hopper led the offense by going 4-for-5 with three singles, a double, two RBIs, a run and a stolen base. Jose Mateo singled twice.

The Lumberjacks slip to 15-17 and drop five games behind north division-leading Quebec in the Northeast League’s second half.

Lorenzo de la Cruz singled twice to pace Bangor’s offense, which has been shut out in seven of its last 19 games. Jerry Long (2-6) took the loss for Bangor.
