PRESQUE ISLE – Due to the price decline for canola, the Aroostook County Farm Service Agency has announced that farmers who grow this crop may be eligible for a cash payment to help make up the difference between the crop’s market price and the price floor established by the FSA commodity loan program.

An LDP is a direct payment for a harvested crop. These payments are not loans, and the local market prices have no bearing on the LDP rate. An LDP may be received on harvested wheat, corn, barley, oats, canola and soybeans. These crops are eligible for an LDP in any harvested form.

Farmers should contact their local Aroostook County FSA office at 532-9407, 764-4151 or 834-3831 for additional LDP information. Producers can also get on an e-mail list to receive the LDP rates by e-mailing a request to albert.dionne@me.usda.gov.
