A Bangor woman allegedly tried to steal shellfish and vodka from a supermarket Tuesday afternoon.
Bangor police Officer David Bushey reported that he and Officer Tyler Leighton went to the Hannaford supermarket on Broadway at about 2:15 p.m. for a reported theft. They found Virginia Lafond, 66, in the custody of store security.
Security official Christoper King told the officers he saw Lafond put a bottle of Orloff vodka in a large canvas tote bag. King said Lafond then got a cooked lobster from the seafood department, which she took to the health and beauty section and hid in the tote bag.
King said Lafond put other items in her cart on top of the bag and paid for them, but not the concealed items, at the register. A $1.49 crab cake, not paid for, was also found on Lafond.
Lafond reportedly said she didn’t know why she hadn’t paid for the shellfish and liquor. Lafond was summoned for theft.
A Bangor man was summoned for theft Tuesday afternoon.
An employee at the Union Street Rite Aid store told Bangor police Officer Butch Moor that she saw Michael Gagnon, 28, put a frozen sandwich in his waistband and try to leave without paying for it. The sandwich was worth $1.89.
Moor summoned Gagnon for theft.
A lawn ball went missing Wednesday afternoon in Hampden.
Hampden police Officer Shawn Devine said an Old County Road woman called to say somebody had taken the gold glass globe from her lawn, along with its heavy ceramic base.
The woman said the globe cost about $80 when she bought it. There are no leads at this time.
Two people were injured in Bangor on Tuesday evening when a rock flew through a truck window.
Bangor police Officer Butch Moor said a Kenduskeag woman told him she had been driving on Third Street at about 5 p.m. when someone threw a rock at her truck, smashing the passenger-side window. The broken glass cut a female passenger and her 3-year-old son.
A man was charged with making a false public report Monday afternoon in Corinth.
Jack Melanson, 26, of Hudson allegedly reported that he had been hit from behind and robbed. He said the perpetrator then fled into the woods. Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Douglas Smith said he and Detective Robert Jordan determined the report was unfounded. The case is under investigation.
