I hope the recent appearance of a political commentary by talk radio’s Rush Limbaugh (BDN, Aug. 15) was a one-shot deal. Thanks to the likes of Limbaugh, much of what now passes for political debate in this country amounts to little more than name-calling, vilifying and demonizing those with whom one disagrees.
I trust the Bangor Daily News will continue to publish a broad spectrum of political opinion, but you might require your columnists to meet two basic criteria: a commitment to civil discourse and a respect for facts. Limbaugh fails to meet either.
