BROCKTON, Mass. – The Brockton Rox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 6-1 Northeast League victory over Bangor here Friday night.

Craig Lewis’ two-run single with one out in the first provided all the run support Rox pitchers Scott Martin and Fontella Jones would need.

Bangor’s fifth loss in its last seven games dropped the Lumberjacks to 17-20. Brockton improves to 21-16. Bangor is now 51/2 games behind Quebec with nine games left in the regular season.

Schuyler Doakes and Mark Burke each hit two singles to lead the Lumberjacks offense, but it wasn’t enough as Brockton starter Martin held them to five hits in 7 2/3 innings to improve his record to 8-4.

Mike Davis paced Brockton’s offense with three singles, an RBI, and a stolen base. Jake Daubert hit two singles.

John Vigue took the loss for Bangor after getting touched up for nine hits and six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings.

The game was delayed 55 minutes by rain.
