The Maine State Police handed over to Bangor police a woman who allegedly drove off the road under the influence of alcohol early Tuesday morning.

Bangor police Officer Ed Mercier reported that he met with Maine State Police Detective Troy Gardiner at about 6:30 a.m. on outer Union Street. Mercier said Gardiner had a woman in his cruiser whom he had helped out of her car after she drove it off the road.

Mercier said Natasha Bone, 19, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, and he could smell alcohol on her. She also appeared unsteady on her feet. Mercier said Bone denied having anything to drink, claiming she felt fine.

Bone performed poorly on field sobriety tests, Mercier said, and after being arrested on an OUI charge, registered 0.13 percent blood-alcohol content. Mercier said he released Bone at the police station.

Two fully loaded dump trucks carrying gravel collided in Hampden on Tuesday morning, causing $20,000 in damage.

Hampden police Sgt. Daniel Stewart reported that two Harriman Brothers dump trucks were carrying gravel east on Kennebec Road at about 7:10 a.m., when the first truck stopped at the intersection with Route 1A, and the second did not.

Stewart said neither the lead driver, Clifton Brown, 51, of Brewer, nor second driver Andrew Stevens, 46, of Fort Fairfield was injured by the rear-end collision. There are no charges.

Bangor police charged two men with theft Monday after an investigation reportedly showed they had both stolen cartons of cigarettes from their employer.

Bangor police Detective Larry Ellis reported that he went to Reid’s Confectionery Co. for a theft report, and spoke with the company president.

Ellis said the president evidently had learned that two men, Craig Brewer, 18, of Burnham and Nathan Richardson, 19, of Plymouth had between them stolen many cartons of cigarettes.

Ellis said he met with a witness who said she saw Brewer toss a “buy two, get one free” box containing three cartons into the back seat of a car he was driving. The witness said Brewer told her he had simply walked out of the business with them.

Ellis said the witness also told him that in the past three months, both Brewer and Richardson had stolen about 50 cartons between them by hiding them in their cargo pants. She told Ellis she believed they sold the cartons to their friends for $40 each.

Ellis then spoke with Richardson, who allegedly said he also saw Brewer toss the box of cartons into the back seat. He allegedly said he and Brewer had stolen only about 15 cartons over the past three months.

Ellis summoned Richardson on a charge of theft, and the company president fired him.

Ells said that when he interviewed Brewer he denied any knowledge of stolen cigarettes. Ellis summoned Brewer on a charge of theft, and he, too, was fired.

Ellis said the stolen buy two, get one free box cost Reid’s Confectionery $72.78.
