Aviation safety award
Tom Judge, executive director of LifeFlight of Maine, has been chosen to receive the Jim Charlson Award from the Association of Air Medical Services.
The award is presented annually to an individual for significant contributions to the enhancement, development or promotion of aviation or aviation safety in the national and international air medical transport community. Judge will accept the national safety award at the Air Medical transport Conference in Reno in November.
In June, the crews of the two LifeFlight of Maine helicopters, based in Lewiston and Bangor, nominated Judge for the award. They referred to him as dynamic and visionary, adding that they were very proud to work with him.
The award brings national attention to the LifeFlight of Maine program, which is working to get funding to build and maintain an air medical transport infrastructure.

Certified real wood
Sylvia Thompson, president of the Unfinished Furniture Association, has announced that Hayes Unfinished Furniture in Brewer has been certified as a “Real Wood Furniture – Finished Your Way” dealer. The certification places Hayes Unfinished Furniture in an exclusive group of retail furniture stores across the country.
“I like the idea of linking retail stores and manufacturers together with a positive common link,” said Ralph C. Hayes, owner of Hayes Unfinished Furniture.
Being certified as a “Real Wood Furniture – Finished Your Way” dealer signifies that the Unfinished Furniture Association has certified that Hayes sells primarily furniture made from real wood and not particle board.
The Unfinished Furniture Association’s Brand Awareness Program, “Real Wood Furniture – Finished Your Way” was established in 2002 in an effort to create a general understanding of the value of real wood furniture and identify the value of its products and services. The association is a national trade organization of domestic and international manufacturers and retailers of unfinished furniture.
