ORONO – An error by first baseman Allentown’s Vic Davilla allowed pinch-runner Steve O’Sullivan to score from third in the bottom of the ninth and give the Bangor Lumberjacks a 6-5 victory over the Ambassadors Wednesday night at Mahaney Diamond.

After Nick Saunders led off the ninth with a single, O’Sullivan ran for him and went to second on a groundout and third on a wild pitch.

The throw sailed into right field, allowing Schuyler Doakes to reach first safely and lefty Danny Miller to claim his fourth victory of the season. Miller (4-10) pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief and allowed three hits while notching five strikeouts and one walk.

Bangor, which was eliminated from playoff contention Tuesday night, is now 19-22 in the second half of the Northeast League season. It was the fourth straight loss for the Ambassadors, now 14-27.

O’Sullivan was the first player to cross the plate safely since the fifth inning.

Juan LeBron hit his sixth home run of the season – a leadoff blast in the third – and doubled, while Barry Paulk belted his first for the Lumberjacks with a solo shot in the first. Catcher Brad Hargreaves hit a two-run single in the second. Mark Burke doubled and singled.

The game was delayed 43 minutes after Allentown manager Ed Ott was ejected in the top of the third inning by first base umpire John Conrad. Ott protested because he indicated he was not arguing with Conrad and refused to leave the field.

The delay prompted Lumberjacks team officials to arrange a special promotion for tonight’s 7:15 p.m. game against Allentown called “Ed Ott Commemorative Watch Giveaway Night.”

The promotion will feature a contest in which 10 randomly selected fans will sit in a special section of Mahaney Diamond and be supplied free soda all game long. Fans must sit at least 43 minutes and drink one soda per inning. The last fan remaining in their seat without getting up at any point during the game will be presented with a special Ed Ott commemorative watch, valued at $250.
