College Sports TV to air Maine game Unity names Kein volleyball coach; Bowdoin selects softball co-coaches

Saturday night’s football game between the University of Maine and the University of Montana will be televised by College Sports Television and can be seen across Maine over various cable systems.

CSTV has reached agreements with both Adelphia and TimeWarner Cable of Maine which will allow Black Bear football fans to watch the 6 p.m. game at Alfond Stadium in Orono.

TimeWarner channels are: York and Cumberland County area, channel 77; Aroostook County, channel 9.

Adelphia channels are: Augusta and central Maine, channel 9; Bangor and eastern Maine, channel 12; Vermont, channel 74.

The CSTV announcing crew of Carter Blackburn, Glenn Parker, and Paul Greene will be calling the action.

Soccer invitational this weekend

The University of Maine men’s soccer program presents the Black Bear Invitational Soccer Tournament and Maine Soccer Youth Day this weekend.

Quinnipiac will paly Niagara at 1 p.m. Sunday, followed by Maine against Canisius at 3:30 p.m.. On Monday, Quinnipiac will meet Canisius at 11 a.m. and Maine will play Niagara at 1:30PM.

Monday is Youth Soccer Day. Admission to the games and Youth Day is free. The first 200 youths in grades K-8 who attend the games wearing their youth soccer jersey will receive a free mini ball and an Adidas Goodie Bag. An MLS Dribble, Pass, and Score contest will also be held. Selected youths will be able to participate in pregame activities.

The event is being held as part of U.S. Youth Soccer Month and in partnership with Bangor Savings Bank, Soccer Maine and the University of Maine men’s soccer program.

Kein to coach Unity volleyball

Chris Kein has been named as women’s volleyball coach at Unity College. Kein, a Unity resident, is a health instructor and track coach at Mount View High School in Thorndike. He has also served as the athletic trainer at Unity College for the past seven years. Kein replaces Chris Melanson.

“We are extremely excited to have Chris Kein on our coaching staff,” said Unity College athletic director Gary Zane. “Our students are familiar with Chris through his role as trainer. He is enthusiastic, creative, and will serve as a great role model for all of our student-athletes.”

The women’s volleyball team will open on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Thomas College in Waterville. The team returns four starters from last year’s squad.

Bowdoin names new coaches

Ryan Sullivan and Katie Sheridan have been named co-head coaches of the Bowdoin College softball team, athletic director Jeff Ward announced Thursday. They replace Jen Burton, who resigned to take a post at her alma mater, the University of Maine.

Sullivan, a Middlebury College graduate, is currently an assistant coach for Bowdoin’s football team. He served on the coaching staff at Middlebury, Georgetown University and was a high school coach in Massachusetts.
