SKOWHEGAN – Work on several highway-paving projects in Fairfield, Norridgewock and Skowhegan will begin Tuesday, Sept. 2, the Maine Department of Transportation recently announced.

DOT will work on sections of Route 139 in Fairfield and Norridgewock, on Route 8 in Norridgewock, on Route 104 in Fairfield and two sections of Route 2 in Norridgewock.

The existing roadway will be shimmed to provide a more level surface and then covered by a newer layer of pavement.

The Route 139 project begins 2.1 miles south of the intersection with Route 2 and extends north for one mile. The Route 8 project begins at the intersection of Route 2 with Bridge Street and extends north to the bridge over the Kennebec River.

The Route 104 project will stretch from the Waterville-Fairfield town line and north for four miles.

One project on Route 2 in Norridgewock will begin four-tenths of a mile east of the Mercer-Norridgewock town line and extend east for 31/2miles. The second Route 2 project begins three-tenths of a mile east of Route 139 and will extend east for four miles and end in Skowhegan.

The roadwork will last until early October and motorists are asked to approach the work areas with caution.

A single contract covering all five projects was awarded to Pike Industries of Lewiston on a bid that was just under $1.1 million.
