ORONO – Allentown righthander John Dillinger tied a Northeast League record with 16 strikeouts to lead the Ambassadors by the Bangor Lumberjacks 1-0 Thursday night at Mahaney Diamond.

With the 16 strikeouts, Dillinger set the league single-season record for strikeouts with 147.

He gave up only three hits and walked three.

Allentown scored the only run it would need in the sixth when Vic Davilla’s double plated Jorge Diaz, who had singled.

Bangor threatened in the fourth when Barry Paulk singled and Lorenzo de la Cruz drew a two-out walk. However, Dillinger then struck out Sandy Martinez to end the threat.

The Lumberjacks also stranded Schuyler Doakes at third in the eighth inning after he slammed a two-out triple. Paulk then grounded out to first.

Bangor mounted another two-out threat in the ninth when de la Cruz singled and stole second. Dillinger then struck out Martinez to end the game.
