HOULTON – Gloria Doody Powers, a Houlton High School mathematics teacher, recently was selected to participate in the Northern New England Co-Mentoring Network.

The program pairs new mathematics and science teachers with accomplished teacher mentors. Powers was chosen for her strong content background, teaching skills, interest in supporting teachers and leadership potential.

The co-mentoring network is a $2.3 million project funded by the National Science Foundation. For three years, the project will provide training for middle school and high school teachers from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont in coaching and mentoring, science and mathematics standards and research-based teaching.

Doody completed a week of training in the program in July.
