VASSALBORO – Robert Browne, majority owner and operator of Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro, died unexpectedly Wednesday while working on the course, according to the club’s Web site. He was 60 years old.

Over the years, Browne expanded the golf course from its original nine holes into the only 36-hole facility in Maine.

He was also a past president of the Maine Golf Course Superindents Association.

Friends and family are encouraged to attend a potluck supper at Natanis on Saturday at 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held Sept. 6 at 8 a.m. at Riverside Congregational Church in Vassalboro.

A celebration of the completion of the new Tomahawk course, previously planned for Sept. 6, will still be held after the service.

He is survived by his wife Julie, sons Rob and Allen and their wives Kim and Sue, respectively, and grandchildren Trevor, Andrew, and Justin, and six brothers and sisters.
