PORTLAND – Police think they know where that mysterious powder came from that spilled open at an L.L. Bean call center Wednesday and threw a scare into workers.
Officials said an elderly woman from New Jersey apparently sent a mosquito repellant coil to the center in hopes of determining if L.L. Bean still sold the item, WMTW-TV reported.
Police said the package apparently got crushed in the mail, creating a powdery substance. Lab results will confirm conclusively what the substance was.
A hazardous materials response team was called to the facility Wednesday after an employee noticed powder leaking from the package.
