Hermon teenager summoned for shoplifting

A Hermon woman was summoned for theft Friday afternoon at the Brewer Wal-Mart.

Brewer police Cpl. David Lord said he went to the store at about 4 p.m., when he found Megan Garland, 18, in custody of store security.

Lord said the security officer told him Garland put more than $30 worth of cosmetics into her purse. The officer said Garland then went through the checkout line, paying for some items but not those concealed in her purse.

As Garland left the store, the officer stopped her and detained her until Lord’s arrival, at which point Garland reportedly confessed her theft to Lord.

Lord said Garland, who had no prior criminal history, was “bawling her eyes out.”

A Lamoine man who allegedly left the scene of an accident was later arrested in the next county.

Bangor police Officer Randall Parsons said he went to the parking lot of the Ramada Inn at 1 a.m. for a reported hit-and-run accident. Nobody was injured, but the driver of the vehicle that was reportedly struck took the license plate of the offending vehicle.

Parsons said Bucksport police later stopped Douglas Monson and arrested him on drunken driving and operating after suspension charges. Parsons requested that Bucksport also charge Monson with leaving the scene of an accident.
