BASS Federation plans event
The Maine BASS Federation will hold its annual state bass-fishing championships qualifying tournaments on the weekend of Sept. 6-7. The two-day tournaments will be held concurrently at Great Pond in Belgrade and on the Kennebec River in Gardiner.
The top 25 fishermen in each event will qualify for the final championship event on the Androscoggin River in Turner in mid-October.
The Maine BASS Federation has grown to nearly 400 members, and with more clubs and individuals qualifying for the state championship event, it became necessary to divide the Federation into two qualifiers on two separate tournament bodies of water. Each club is assigned their qualifying lake in a blind draw.
This year 234 anglers representing 28 Maine bass clubs will compete. There will be 58 boats on each body of water.
The tournaments will begin at 8 a.m. each day with the weigh-ins beginning at 4 p.m. The weigh-in and launch site for the Great Pond event will be the state public boat launch, while the Kennebec River anglers will meet at the Gardiner boat launch.
The public is invited to watch the weigh-ins and cheer on their favorite anglers.
Bangor Gun Show set
The 26th annual Bangor Gun Show will be held on Sept. 6-7 at the Bangor Auditorium.
Shooters, hunters and collectors will have the opportunity to see a wide variety of firearms, from antiques to the very latest in rifles, pistols and shotguns.
Show admission is discounted for law enforcement officers and NRA members with ID. Non-NRA members can join or renew their membership at the show and get in free.
Show hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday.
