NAPLES – A St. Joseph’s College student was killed Thursday when the car he was riding in veered off Burnell Road, hit a tree and plunged down an embankment, police said.

John Queenan Jr., 19, of Hooksett, N.H., was flown to Central Maine Medical Center, where he died several hours later, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.

Another passenger, Kyle Rennick, 18, of Beverly, Mass., was injured and transported to the Lewiston hospital. A hospital official said he was in good condition Friday afternoon.

The car’s driver, Luke Chouinard, 19, of Oxford, and another passenger were treated at hospitals and released, police said.

Speed may have been a factor in the crash, authorities said, and an investigation is under way to determine if any charges will be filed.
