PHILADELPHIA – Karly Bundy scored two second-half goals as the University of Maine’s field hockey team beat Davidson 3-1 in its opener at Temple University Sunday.
Emily Dooling scored a first-half goal and had an assist for the University of Maine and Amie Dubois had two assists. Jaye Lance stopped five of six shots.
Volleyball
Colorado, PSU beat Maine
Penn State, the nation’s 11th-ranked team, and the University of Colorado dealt the Maine volleyball team a pair of 3-0 setbacks over the weekend.
Maine is now 2-2.
Penn State beat Maine 30-15, 30-14, 30-11 on Saturday and Colorado triumphed 30-22, 30-24, 30-28 on Sunday.
Maine went 2-2 in the Sea-Sun Opener Invitational.
Penn State went 4-0.
On Saturday, Leah Guidinger led Maine with 11 kills and five digs while Shelly Seipp had 11 assists. Ashley Pederson had 13 kills for the Nittany Lions and Sam Tortorello notched 40 assists and 13 digs.
On Sunday, Monique Gerlach had 19 kills and nine digs to help Colorado the win.
Carmen Gabriel had 11 kills and 11 set assists for UMaine.
Women’s soccer
Maine 3, Lafayette 1
At Orono Saturday, Annie Hamel notched a goal and an assist as the Black Bears won their opener.
Katie Hodge and Kim Walsh had a goal each for Maine and Tanya Adorno made one save on three shots.
Meghan Ramsey scored 0-1 Lafayette’s only goal and Marissa Mullins topped 10 out of 21 shots.
RIT 2, Husson 0
At Rochester, NY, Brooke Thompson and Kate Cassie notched a goal apiece for RIT in the win on Saturday.
Carolyn Tehle made two saves against three shots for 1-0 RIT.
Leah Drew stopped nine of 30 shots for 0-1 Husson.
Ramapo 2, Husson 0
At Rochester, NY, Jessica Stoveken scored one goal and assisted on another as Ramapo prevailed on Sunday.
Lisa Baldino added a goal for the 1-1-0 winners and Christy Turners stopped all four shots she faced.
Leah Drew blocked 16 out of 25 shots for the 0-2 Braves.
MMA 7, UMass-Boston 0
At Portland, Ashley Brooker scored two goals and assisted two others to help Maine Maritime Academy to their first win of the season on Sunday.
Amy Asselin scored two goals for the Mariners and Jessie Taylor scored a goal and had two assists. Kristen Gaylord had a goal and an assist and Kristin Gavor scored a goal. Meghan Marshall stopped one of five shots for 1-0 Maine Maritime Academy.
Kristen Bowes and Elizabeth Erlandson combined to make 10 saves on 17 shots for 0-1 University of Massachusetts-Boston.
Men’s soccer
Canisius 1, Maine 0
At Orono Sunday, Chris Rohey scored off of a Matthew Waddington assist with 7:40 left to give Canisius College (N.Y.) the win.
Matt Houghton stopped all four shots that he saw for 1-0 Canisius College.
Josh Sjostrom made two saves on three shots for 0-1 Maine.
