ORONO – One vehicle spun off the road and another ended up lying on its windshield in an accident Sunday afternoon on Interstate 95.

Maine State Trooper Seth Edwards said Dale Braley, 29, of Bangor was traveling north in his Chevrolet pickup at about 4:25 p.m. when he looked in his rearview mirror. He reportedly saw a car hit his truck in the side. The truck then spun off the road, ending up in the median, Edwards said.

Edwards said Benjamin Knapp, 19, of Milo, driving a Honda Civic, apparently had fallen asleep while in the passing lane near Exit 51. The impact caused his car to roll over, resulting in about $5,000 in damage.

Braley’s truck was slightly damaged in the rear, but he was able to drive it back up onto the road, Edwards said. Both drivers refused to be taken to the hospital.

Both were wearing seat belts.

While alcohol was apparently not a factor in the crash, Edwards said, he did summon Knapp for illegal transportation of liquor by a minor.
